Peter Mazalán studied singing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Except music he also received a doctorate at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak University of Technology. He became the laureate of several international vocal competitions, e.g. Hilde Zadek International Vocal Competition in Vienna, Concorso per Giovani Cantanti Lirici d’Europa in Como, the Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition. His most important engagements include the opera studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where he sang the Forester in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen or Conte Peruchetto in Haydn’s La fedelta premiata. He also sang in the Stadttheater Klagenfurt in Austria. There he appeared as Zurga in Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles, Ottokar in Weber’s Der Freischütz or Homonaya in Strauss’ Der Zigeunerbaron. The young baritone regularly appears also on concert stages. He performed Dvořák’s Biblical Songs in Munich with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester, Händel’s The Messiah with the Münchner Symphoniker in Munich and the Chorwerk Ruhr in Essen. Within the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival he sang in Händel’s Alexander’s Feast with Rolf Beck as the conductor. There he also sang Osmin in Mozart’s Zaide under Leopold Hager. He appeared in Orff’s Carmina Burana in Lübeck, Reutlingen, Essen, Frankfurt, Rheingau and São Paulo.
Peter Mazalán currently collaborates in original inter-media projects, crossovers between art song and contemporary theatre, performance and visual art.
